Islands of Adventure, also known as IOA, opened on May 28, 1999. This new addition to Universal had 6 islands inside the theme park. The entrance area is known as Port of Entry, followed on the right by Seuss Landing, then The Lost Continent, Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon, and finally Marvel Super Hero Island. In 2010 another Island was added to IOA, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. On July 13th, 2016 an eighth Island was added with the addition of Skull Island: Reign of Kong.
Port of Entry
Once you enter through the main entrance you will see guest relations to your right and to the left is an area to send off your letters through “rocket mail”. In front of you lies the map with all lands laid out and you can choose several different languages. Through the bridge you come to an exotic type of land where you can browse or purchase at several interesting shops. At the end of the walkway is the lagoon. There will be a Starbucks coffee shop on your left and Confisco Grille (table service restaurant) and Back Water Bar on your right. For this E-Book I will start off from left to right and list each Island and attraction.
Marvel Super Hero Island
On your left you will see a bridge that leads you to the Hulk coaster. Near that is Storm Force Accelatron. As you continue down the main path you will see on your left the Café 4 which serves quick service meals. Across from it is where Spiderman resides to take pictures with you. On your left side is a path that will lead you to Doctor Doom’s Fearfall attraction. If you pass up the narrow pathway but continue along the main path, you will find on your left The Amazing Adventures of Spider-man. Across from Spider-man is the Captain America Diner which is a quick service location.
This area is a pretty cool place to relax and grab a bite to eat at either the Comic Strip Café on your left or J Wimpy’s on your right. A little further in is Blondie’s another counter service restaurant. On the left side of the area is Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, a log flume ride. Be warned as you will get wet. On the right side of this area is Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat-Barges. Now this is a great way to wet your entire down during those hot summer months. Next to Popeye’s raft ride is a ship named Me Ship, The Olive.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong
As you pass over a bridge you will notice that the theming changes dramatically. You feel like you are in a jungle setting quickly. This is the old Jurassic Park area of the park which had to be moved further into this area to accommodate this attraction. There is just this one attraction in this Island area at this time. Skull Island: Reign of Kong is and awesome ride not to be missed during your visit.
As you pass the attraction of Kong, you will notice another quick service restaurant on your left, Thunder Falls Terrace. On your right above you can see the Pteranodon Flyers. Keep in mind that there are restrictions for riding this attraction. Passing around the bend you will see on your left Jurassic Park River Adventure. You will see the drop from the attraction and on the right of you is the entrance to Camp Jurassic where the entrance to Pteranodon Flyers is located. Across from Camp Jurassic is the entrance to the River Adventure. Further down the path will lead you to the Discovery Center on your right. Inside the Discovery Center there is a shop to your right and the Burger digs to your right which is a counter service restaurant. Downstairs is the actual discovery center where kids can interact with some dinosaur exhibits. They can even see a dinosaur hatch as well. At the very end of Jurassic Park is the watering hole. It is a great way to grab that needed alcohol drink on the go just before entering the Harry Potter area of the park.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade Crossing over the bridge will get you into Hogsmeade and there are photographers usually on this bridge. To your left is the attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Across from this attraction is the Flight of the Hippogriff coaster. In front of you is a stage where the frog choir comes out for a show and the Triwizard Spirit Rally. Taking a right after the bridge will start your journey towards Olivander’s wand shop which is on your left. On your right will be Hog’s Head Pub and the Three Broomsticks restaurant. As you continue down the path you will come to the Hogwart’s Express – Hogsmeade station, it will be on your left.
The Lost Continent
Leaving the World of Harry Potter through the archway will land you into the Lost Continent. Once inside this area there will be the Mystic Fountain on your left side. It will interact with guests from time to time. Behind the fountain is the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad. This is a theatre type show. There are some unique shops here that are highly recommended as well. On the path you will see the Poseidon’s Fury which is another attraction and will be on your left. There is another counter service restaurant here named Fire-Eater’s Grill on your right side. Across from the Poseidon’s Fury is the famed restaurant, Mythos. This is a table service restaurant that has high ratings.
Leaving the Lost Continent over the bridge will land you right into Seuss Landing. On the right is Moose Juice, Goose Juice. They serve some ice type drinks. If you were to take that path on the right and follow it all the way to the end, it will take you right past all of Seuss Landing. It follows along the lagoon. However, straight ahead are all the attractions for Seuss Landing. The first one is the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! On the left. Across from the trolley is Hop on Pop ice cream shop. A little further in you will see the Caro-Seuss-el attraction on your right. On your left there is another counter service restaurant, Circus McGurkus Café Stoo-pendous. Following along the main path again on your left will be the One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish attraction. The last attraction is on the left as well which the infamous Cat in the Hat ride is. The last item in the area is on the right just before leaving the land is if I ran the Zoo which is a children’s play ground.
